The Intrinsic Capacity: Frailty & Sarcopenia Research Conference for Healthy Longevity (2026) was held in Washington, D.C. from March 10–12. The meeting focused on key aspects of aging, including sarcopenia, frailty biomarkers, and strategies to promote healthy longevity. Shabnam Salimi presented her work on the Body Clock as a quantitative measure of health entropy.
A central theme of the conference was the concept of intrinsic capacity (IC), which is increasingly recognized as a comprehensive framework for understanding health across the lifespan. While interest in IC is rapidly growing, participants emphasized that its impact depends on improving measurement consistency, refining its conceptual basis, and ensuring effective translation into clinical and public health practice.
The conference highlighted that advancing this field requires standardized tools, integration of biological insights, and a focus on health trajectories over time. Ultimately, intrinsic capacity was positioned as a promising approach to shift the focus of aging research from disease management toward maintaining and optimizing overall health.
